The Plusses of Google+ Posted on July 28, 2011 Post a comment

Google+ has been out for less then a month and it already has an estimated 20 million users. But what is it that makes Google+ so compelling?

It’s several things, actually. First, Google+’s Circles function let’s you group friends into different buckets. Your boss and your family can be placed in different circles and your communications can be tailored to the audience.  This is a vast improvement over the Facebook ‘profile curating’ that many people have come to rely on. Secondly, with Hangouts you can combine a casual meet-up with live, multi-person video, encouraging true interactive communication, not just one-way posts. And third, Google+ Sparks bring you relevant content on a real-time basis for any topics you find interesting. Think of it as Google Search, but with real-time dialogue.

Google+ is still technically in beta, but it is a compelling offering. And while it’s not Google’s first foray into social media, it’s clearly its best.
