rabble at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) Posted on June 21, 2010 Post a comment

What do you get when you combine 5,200 developers, over 1,000 Apple engineers, and enough code to circle the globe, like, a million times? Well, you get the 2010 Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Our Senior Interactive Developer Patrick Hefner took the trip out West to attend the WWDC the week of June 7th, 2010, and he came back with the kind of stories you only find in epic poems or Victorian folklore.

He stood in line for hours upon hours to see keynote speaker Steve Jobs and was the very last person admitted before the overflow rooms opened up. He may or may not have had food and water for sustenance while he waited—we’re still confirming the gritty details.

He interacted with thousands of developers who could hardly control their geektastic excitement over the iOS platform. It’s rumored there was full-on cheering and more tear-filled eyes than were anticipated. Tissues were running scarce.

He enjoyed a boisterous “Beer Bash” headlined by a speaker-blasting performance by OK Go! You know…the guys who did the famous treadmill choreography music video? Pretty sweet.

And, of course, he attended some of the countless sessions and labs where developers got a glimpse at new Application Programming Interfaces (API’s) and coding techniques.

But according to Patrick, the best part was the awe-inspiring energy and pure, unadulterated passion for technology. He remarks, “Apple has done such a great job taking care of the developers who write applications for their platform. I, for one, will be writing better apps as a result of the week I spent at WWDC.”

Seems like there’s only one thing left to say: What time next year?
