The Africa School Assistance Project (ASAP), which was formed last year, leverages the work and desires of rural Africans to build schools for their children while increasing cross-cultural understanding by having funders and their families work in the villages.
The initial focus of ASAP has been in Tanzania, which is a particularly good place to concentrate efforts, because the government is committed to increasing education in rural areas and will put teachers in villages where schools have been built.
The construction of two new primary schools, a village clinic, and the Miririni Secondary School would have been an enormous burden in the rural areas. With poor water and soils and insufficient food, what the community has achieved in such a short time is truly amazing, and a testament to the sacrifice the villagers will undergo to acquire basic education and health services.
