Yesterday, Pantone Color Institute announced the 2012 color of the year: Tangerine Tango. It’s a vivid shade of orangey-red, that will set a more optimistic and energetic mood in the coming year. Last year’s color, Honeysuckle, a warm shade of yellow, was selected to lift our spirits, too. But Tangerine Tango takes the driver’s seat with more authority. We will cheer up, damnit!
Color specialists at the institute say that there’s an element of encouragement in orange, and that it evokes courage and action in the human mind. It was selected using trend forecasting in fashion, film, technology, the arts, and other socioeconomic factors.
Whether or not the color will actually effect our collective psyche is yet to be seen and probably impossible to measure, but the color will effect the products we buy. Fashion houses will integrate the hue in their apparel lines and you might even see it pop up in home fashion (and if you’ve shopped CB2 lately, you’ve probably already got a good dose of it).
Orange is our favorite color, for all the reasons this shade was selected. See, we already feel better.
