Putting Denver’s Road Home on the MapPosted by lee in New Work

It’s been three years since Denver adopted its Ten-Year Plan to End Homelessness. This year, Denver’s Road Home asked us to help in the development of their annual progress report.

There were a number of new challenges and opportunities this year. The release date of the report was due to coincide with the Democratic National Convention, thus broadening the audience for distribution significantly. Also, for that reason, the story needed to rewind to the beginning for individuals unfamiliar with what Denver does to help its homeless. There was also a need to keep production materials to a minimum, because Denver’s Road Home has always been about spreading awareness in an environmentally friendly manner.

What we did was develop a concept for the report that folded up into a pocket-sized pamphlet, yet housed all the information the city needed to convey. We printed it on recycled paper, and were able to reduce the amount of paper per proposal significantly in order to print more but still use less material. For those new to the plan, we made sure the language started at square one, so that they could get a glimpse of Denver’s progress. In addition, because this last year introduced the award winning donation meters throughout downtown, we decided to include a map of their locations, which also doubled nicely as a city reference map for delegates and other visitors in Denver during the time the report was distributed.
